Sustainability
vildwerk.’s very essence lies in its concern for the natural and wild world, climate change, and the ecological crisis. It is therefore a given to ensure that, as a role model, the organization’s conduct, actions, and behavior are aligned with its mission and vision, as much as is reasonably possible for an organization based in New York City—the concrete jungle.
On a day-to-day basis, vildwerk. operates a paperless system and limits meetings to being held virtually whenever possible, in order to avoid the pollution and related costs of transport.
With a commitment to producing as little waste as possible, vildwerk. ensures that materials used as part of its events are recycled and disposed of appropriately, and works with like-minded partners who share this outlook.
In 2024 and 2025, across all vildwerk. reception events, we worked exclusively with vegetarian caterers and implemented zero plastic waste practices, eliminating single-use plastics and prioritizing reusable or compostable materials wherever possible. These choices reflect our belief that sustainability must extend beyond artistic content and be embedded in how we operate, gather, and engage with our community.
vildwerk. only serves vegetarian food at reception events, recognizing that the meat industry is a major contributor to climate change, land degradation, and biodiversity loss.
By taking a further step toward positive change, and thanks to our partner Nature and Culture International, vildwerk. planted 100 trees in the province of Pastaza, Ecuador. This initiative was organized by women of the Shuar Indigenous Nationality.
